SEG Student Eligibility

General Eligibility

The Summer Experience Grant (SEG) is open to students who are participating in eligible Yale Study Abroad programs or eligible professional development experiences and who:

  • receive Yale financial aid for the award year preceding their summer experience
  • have not received an ISA/SEA before, or who returned ISA/SEA funding in full before starting an experience in a previous summer
  • complete all required application materials before their respective deadlines

Students returning from or embarking on a Leave of Absence may be eligible for the SEG, provided they are approved by the Yale Study Abroad Office (for study abroad programs) and fulfill all other SEG eligibility requirements. 

Class-year Eligibility

In addition to the requirements above, students must hold the following class-year standing at time of application:

SEG for Yale Study Abroad

  • First-year
  • Sophomore
  • Junior

Graduating seniors are not eligible, except if graduating in December. 

SEG for Professional Development

  • Sophomore
  • Junior

Graduating seniors are not eligible, except if graduating in December.

Seniors graduating in December or off-cycle who will return to Yale following their summer experience and fulfill all other SEG requirements are eligible to request the SEG.

Students who do not receive Yale Scholarship due to receiving funding from an outside source (such as the government of their home country or the ROTC) should contact Undergraduate Financial Aid (yss.funding@yale.edu) to find out about their aid eligibility.
